About Avon

Avon is a quaint and picturesque New England town running alongside the Farmington River, 15 minutes outside of Hartford. Originally settled in 1645 as part of Farmington, it currently stands as one of the best places to live in Connecticut with excellent schools and an involved and family oriented community.

Within Hartford County, Avon, is governed by a Town Council/Town Manager form of local government.  Avon’s population was 18,049 in 2012 with a median age of 45, 7,115 households, with a median household income of $111,768.  Avon covers 22.6 square miles, or 14,454 acres.

Our schools are ranked in the top 10 in Connecticut. We just received a #9 in the Niche 2017 Best School Districts in Connecticut
